Gundog Training

We have a range of facilities designed to get the very best out of both you as a handler and your dog.  Whether you’re aiming for a well trained pet you can walk in the park, or fully trained shooting companion we can help. Our training ground was primarily designed to get the very best and highest standard out of our own dogs.  As a client, you will be able to use the full range of facilities to achieve the same standards for you and your own dog.

We start with an introductory phone call to learn about your current experience and training objectives.  Our first 1-2-1 lesson would be an assessment session, working with the information you have given us about yourself, your dog, and what you wish to achieve. Following this, we design a tailor-made plan to suit you and your dog with homework and guidance to take away and work on in between lessons. Once your dog is of a standard, you would be invited to join in with a weekly group class to compliment the work you have done and challenge you to produce the same high standards around distractions.

Training Paddock

Purpose built to fine tune straight lines, handling, and building the dogs confidence when on a blind retrieve.

Fenced areas for jumping and holding an area while hunting on a retrieve.

Rabbit Pen

The ultimate test of steadiness for a dog, having to hunt up through a mix of light and heavy cover and flushing the real thing.

Invaluable resource for both introducing a young dog to scent and helping steady up some overly keen dogs, but like wise is a great tool to get the slow burners firing.

Water

Our water is great for getting young dogs introduced to water, with easy entry and exit points. Fenced off at half way point to help encourage the dogs to take the same line on the way back through the water when retrieving from the opposite bank.

There is a fence which can be jumped at the far bank to set up really challenging retrieves for more experienced dogs.

HPR Training

We use live pigeons to encourage pointing and to simulate the flushing of game birds. This helps dogs learn to be steady on point and also overcome stickiness when commanded to flush. We train this behaviour in HPRs across all of our ground including large open grass fields, cover crop and in the rabbit pen.

Steady Pen

We also have a steady pen; an enclosed area with live pheasants which we use to help simulate the excitement of getting to a flushing point and keeping the dogs under control at that time.

Pigeons

We use pigeons in and out of cover crops to simulate the flushing of birds and getting the dogs steady to the flush.
